What lies in the shadow of the statue?

Salutations.
Feeling like possibly the biggest GEEK in the world, I thought I would throw that in there.
=]
Anyway, the day has finally come!
Actually it hasn't, but it will soon enough: Lost! Feb. 2nd!!!

I have an extremely annoying paper to write, that is due on Wednesday, so I thought I would create this post now before the big day and let it linger a while.

Lost has a really big fan base, which I do not, so I am really excited to read other blogs and see videos the day after the first episode.

This post may seem very pointless to you, but Lost holds a very special place in my heart.
During the summer of 2009, drowned in the boredom that is an early summer(I graduated so I was out by May) I stumbled across something that changed my life forever....
Ok, it really isn't that dramatic.
I'd always heard that Lost was an amazing show, but it just didn't look interesting to me.
I waited a good 5 years(!) to show my interest and watched seasons 1-5 in 3 weeks.
It may sound easy to you, but it really meant I had to wake up a nine and didn't go to sleep until 2 am.
Everyday!
I had no life, okay?
Anyway, now that it is coming back on I really am excited to have this place in my heart refilled.
I just don't know if I will be able to take waiting a whole week to see new episodes.
When I watched them online it was only a matter of minutes.
We shall see.
Anyway, if you don't watch Lost but plan on watching season 6 because of the hype I am gonna post a video to kind of get you caught up, but its really better to just watch seasons 1-5.

Good luck!

I like sibling rivalries...

Two rivalries made their way into mainstream news this past week:
Jay Leno vs. Conan O'Brien
and
Stefan vs. Damon

Conan gave his farewell speech this past Friday on his final show, which was very dignified and kind of beautiful(according to my google search he got huge ratings too, TAKE A LOOK NBC).
You can read the main article here.
There is also a link to check out what the celebs had to say about the whole situation, which I found interesting.
Its quite upsetting seeing him go.
I watched both shows to sample out the material and Conan is much funnier, not to mention the fact that he got royally screwed in the whole deal.
But, what Conan said that really made me sympathetic of his situation was:
"Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
Oh Conan...why did you have to go!!!
I can be angry at Leno but it isn't going to reap much so in actuality all of my hate goes to NBC for this travesty.
Just...pathetic.
I would write them a long strongly worded letter....but I know they would just toss it out like they do with everything else worth anything.

NEXT
(and you knew this was coming)

Vampire Diaries!
I wont spend too much time talking about this, but it was an acceptable opener.
I dont really understand why after being in a car accident Elena wasn't taken to the hospital, but I digress.
I really like Damon, because he is a bad boy...why else? (he was also on Lost which makes him the epitome of sexy)
Im glad it didn't end retarded, even though it kind of did.
Stefan and Elena are back together, but now we find out (SPOILER ALERT) he's been stalking her for half a year and saved her from the deadly car accident which claimed her parent's lives.
.....
Anyway.
They are good looking people so what do you expect, I can't resist a vampire with a soft side who is usually paired with a vampire with an edge.
Edward and Rosalie (Twilight)
Bill and Eric (True Blood)
Louis and Lestat (Interview with a Vampire)
Stefan and Damon (Vampire Diaries)

Now, just to amuse me, watch this terribly old commercial from bing that I truly find confusing.
Why does she laugh?

Hope For Haiti

"Did you see Hope For Haiti last night?" I sent in a text to my friend miles away at Bloomsburg University.
"Yeah, I saw it. It was on like every channel." I received when I woke up.

So, my question to you world is: Did YOU see Hope for Haiti last night?
If you didn't theres no excuse because it was widely broadcasted on every channel and then replayed a second and maybe third time. I wouldn't know about the third time personally, I went to sleep, but the first time I happened to see it was during an encore presentation.
I must say, I really enjoyed the performances.
There were a large number of celebrities there, not only speaking and performing but getting on a more personal level answering phones and holding conversations with various callers.
Some of the celebrities included: George Clooney, Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Morgan Freeman, Chris Rock, Steven Speilberg, and Wyclef Jean- a Haitian native.

I won't rant about the performances because, lets face it they are all over youtube as I type but they were interesting.
It was a different experience for me watching someone give a tearful performance and then not be faded out by the roars and clapping of thousands of fans. In fact there were no roars of any type, just the drowning in of ringing telephones as the camera cut to a celebrity addressing a donator.

After Justin Timberlake and his breakout star performed the hit song Hallelujah, I searched the web to find out exactly who it was he was performing with ( frankly with the angle of the camera he very much resembled Dave Grohl from 'The Foo Fighters') who I later found to be Matt Morris. Just an hour after airing- ONE HOUR- I typed "Justin Timb-" into google and "Hope for Haiti performance" came up before I could finish his name. It just shows how big of an impact this show really had.

So I leave you with two videos that I think you might enjoy.
And if you would like to have the mp3 version(you know without stealing it...pirates) then you can always go to iTunes and buy those performances.

Not that I assumed it would be, but honestly I never stayed awake for an entire award show before.

What You Missed
  • Some amazing and not so amazing outfits.
  • If you missed E!'s pre-show, you didn't miss much, but Seacrest rushing celebrities and cutting them off whenever someone he dubbed more important came along: "Right, Thats great- Oh Look George Clooney."
  • Robert Downey Jr. making a hilarious speech: "I don't have anybody to thank. These guys, they needed me! Avatar was gonna take us to the cleaners. If they didn't have me they didn't have a shot, buddy!"
  • Rookie comedy/musical beating The Office and vet 30 Rock for the comedy win. ( I love Glee!)
  • A sweet speech from Meryl Streep as she beat herself for best actress in a comedy, because lets be honest she was her only real contender (her kiss with Sandra Bullock at the Critics Awards was more publicized)
  • Leo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro presenting Martin Scorsese, with a montage I really appreciated.( And from the looks of it he did too!)
  • George Clooney looking extremley bored and over the entire award show scene: Jason Reitman: "George doesn't even want to be here tonight. He wishes he was in a soundstage setting up 20,000 phone lines for a benefit for Haiti right now." Right on.
  • A lot of Celebs getting the word out about supporting Haiti. (see previous post)
  • Drew Berrymore accepting her award not only surprised but nervous and extremely humble.
  • Rookie Monique winning for Best Supporting actress.
  • Tarantino's table of vengeful "Basterds" ( I only say this because I think they got snubbed") Eli Roth(who looks like Zachary Quinto to me): “They don’t really feed you — it’s just champagne. Everyone’s drinking it all night. It’s incredible. You look around, and there’s Fergie and Mariah Carey and Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman.” I guess they were close to the Nine table.
  • Speaking of which it was a pretty horrible set up: It took 5 minutes to get to the stage and they played them off before they could finish. Except Robert Downey Jr. of course "If you start playing violinsI am going to tear this joint apart" and James Cameron "They are telling me to wrap it up, but they are afraid to start the music!"
  • Ricky Gervais was okay, the celebs seemed to enjoy him more. Some things he said were pretty funny. He made fun of a lot of celebrities including his public pretend "rival" of the American 'Office' Steve Carell and the legendary Beatle Paul Mccartney: “We actually came over on the same flight, I didn’t get to speak to him because I was up the front in first class. He was behind me in coach — saving money. He spent an awful lot last year."(a joke aimed at his divorce...he got a few boos for that one but apparently Mccartney appreciated it. Not that one could tell from his facial expression as they cut to him.)
So those were the Globes.

Here are my recommendations:

You like Blood and Gore? : Inglorious Basterds (pretty good story)
Sentimental w/ Comedy?: It's Complicated or Up In The Air (the latter was better)
High school musical w/ real world problems: Glee (test the first episode if you must)
Animated gold w/ an equally depressing and inspiring plot: Up!
Ready for some perfect visual effects w/ subpar acting and a cool story?: Avatar
Out there raunchy above average comedy: The Hangover (you gotta love Andy...it's an Office thing)

I ALWAYS recommend Lost and the Office, two of my favorite shows.
Get ready for Vampire Diaries Thursday, January 21st and the final season of Lost Tuesday Feb. 2nd.
